Will Robots Take Over Hospitality?
Timothy R Andrews and Joe McDonnell discuss why self-service technology can work perfectly for a simple transaction, while personal service, recognition and human interaction remain central to a valuable hospitality experience. The question isn’t whether technology is good or bad. It’s whether your guests are buying a commodity, an experience or a combination of both. This clip is from Can Hospitality Stay Human?, the new Talking Hospitality episode exploring AI, hospitality technology, workplace culture and the future of human service. In The Age Of Tech, Can Hospitality Stay Human?
Can hospitality stay human as AI, automation and new technology reshape the industry? Timothy R Andrews, Tracey Rashid and Joe McDonnell explore AI in hospitality, workplace culture, employee experience and the future of human service. They are normally the ones asking the questions. This time, producer Paul Cook turns the tables. From smart glasses and reluctant technology adopters to healthy workplace friction, staff retention and the experiences guests will still value, the team discusses where technology genuinely helps and where people remain irreplaceable. Can hospitality businesses become more efficient without losing the human touch? And how can leaders introduce new technology without leaving their teams behind? IN THIS EPISODE: * What a strong hospitality workplace culture looks like * Why culture must be demonstrated, not merely written down * How healthy disagreement between departments can improve decisions * Practical ways to keep up with hospitality technology * O…

Can Hospitality Stay Human?
Can hospitality embrace AI, automation and new technology without losing the human connection at the heart of the industry? Timothy R Andrews, Tracey Rashid and Joe McDonnell explore workplace culture, hospitality leadership, technology adoption, employee experience and what the future could look like for hospitality businesses and their people. In a slightly different Talking Hospitality episode, producer Paul Cook turns the questions on the hosts. They discuss what makes a strong hospitality culture, how good leaders deal with friction between departments, why communication matters, and why people respond so differently to technological change. The conversation then turns to AI and automation. As technology removes human interaction from more areas of everyday life, could hospitality become even more valuable precisely because it provides experiences built around people? They also challenge the traditional idea that the customer must always come first. If you create the ri…

How Hospitality Leaders Should Approach AI & Technology
DON’T IGNORE THE TECH Hospitality technology keeps changing, and leaders can’t afford to switch off from it. Tracey Rashid talks about staying informed, attending industry events, speaking to suppliers and understanding what is actually useful for your business. Will Technology Make Hospitality More Valuable?
What happens to hospitality as technology removes more and more human interaction from everyday life? Joe McDonnell believes the industry could have an important advantage. While automation, AI and emerging technology will continue to change how hospitality businesses operate, the fundamental experience of being welcomed, looked after and connected with another person is much harder to replace. In this conversation, Joe explores why hospitality jobs may be more insulated from technological disruption than many people assume, how changing consumer behaviour could increase the value of human interaction, and where the industry’s opportunities could lie over the next 10, 15 and 20 years. Because perhaps the question isn’t simply what technology will replace. Perhaps it’s what people will value more when technology is everywhere. Talking Hospitality brings experienced hospitality voices together to explore the people, ideas and decisions shaping the industry. Moving The Hospitality C…

Why Is Sri Lankan Food Booming?
Joe McDonnell had never tried Sri Lankan cuisine before visiting the country. After following an incredible smell into a hotel kitchen, he was invited to try the breakfast being cooked for the team. For the next five days, he chose the staff meal over the hotel buffet. One dish was so good that he says he almost cried. Joe called it the best meal he had ever eaten. This clip features Ranji Thangiah and Talking Hospitality host Timothy R Andrews. Have you tried Sri Lankan food? #SriLankanFood #SriLankanCuisine #TalkingHospitality #YouTubeShorts #sahn #sahm2026

How To Screw Up Pride As A Business
When businesses treat inclusion as something they can quietly switch on and off, people notice. Recent HRC Foundation research found that 71.5% of LGBTQ+ consumers say they buy fewer products from companies they perceive as reducing their inclusion commitments. That should make hospitality pause. Because Pride is not just a logo in June. It is how people are welcomed. It is how guests are treated. It is whether couples feel respected at check-in. It is whether teams feel safe being themselves at work. In this clip from our conversation with PrideWide, we talk about why surface-level Pride activity is not enough. Hospitality has a real opportunity here. Not performative support. Not a rainbow badge for thirty days. Proper, consistent, year-round inclusion. That is better for guests. Better for teams. And, frankly, better for business.

Does Pride Still Matter in 2026?
Doing the right thing and building a better hospitality industry are not separate arguments. In this clip, Tris Reid-Smith co-founder of @pridewide why inclusion benefits more than one community. It supports people. It strengthens workplaces. It creates opportunity. It helps build a society where more people can contribute, progress and belong. That matters in hospitality. Pride Month is a useful reminder, but this work does not begin and end in June. That is not corporate fluff. That is better hospitality. #PrideMonth #Hospitality #Inclusion #EDI #DEI #HospitalityLeadership #TalkingHospitality #PeopleAndCulture Top tips from the crew at Talking Hospitality podcast - providing solutions & support for the Hospitality industry. http://www.talkinghospitality.com/ This is more than just a podcast — it's a platform for voices across the global hospitality industry.
